Before getting into the main topic, I want to introduce myself. I'm Deepak Barik, a content writer. I started content writing in November 2022 from an internship.
That internship lasted only 3 months, as the amount of work burned me out + the stipend they were paying. I want to make this short, so let's fast-forward to January 2024.
I joined Crazy Dots Digital as a content writer in January 2024. It was completely new, as I had to write content in a new niche.
A niche in which I was completely unknown. But it's been 6 months, and I'm still learning new stuff about this new niche.
However, I overcome the problems many writers face when they get introduced to a new niche.
In this newsletter, I'm going to share my journey and how I cope with a completely new niche.
What is Niche, and why does it matter?
If you are completely new, then think of Niche as a movie genre. Just like genre, there are many niches in content writing from — health to sports. Every article you see on the Web is part of a particular niche.
Knowing about a niche or any kind of experience in it builds authority as a writer. Most companies prefer a writer who is a specialist in a niche rather than a writer who has zero knowledge about the niche.
Talking about my niche, I am interested in movies and entertainment-related stuff. I can write thousands of articles in the entertainment niche without even needing to research a lot.
Now, I currently write in the poker and gaming niche (a little knowledge), so here are 3 ways you can master a new niche.
Ask for a Source –
You can directly ask your client to give some sources instead of giving you a topic idea. In this way, you don't have to research a lot and can write from the sources. You can write well-articulated content by reading multiple sources.
Forums are Your Best Friend –
Sometimes, you just don't want to rephrase other content. In this situation, forums are your best source — when you want to know the pulse of the audience.
I was writing a lifestyle article on a popular poker player. To give it a personal touch, I went to the Poker subreddit, where I found out that He was very controversial and one of the most hated players in the community. I was shocked, but finding out that he was very controversial and one of the most hated players in the community added value to my article. Otherwise, it would have felt like a soulless AI article.
Try checking out if your niche has a forum or a place for discussion.
YouTube –
YouTube videos are also a good way to get into a niche. Just watch a couple of videos regarding your niche, and you will be in a never-ending rabbit hole.
I hope this will help you. This is my first newsletter, so please forgive me for making it short. If you enjoy reading this and want to get more tips and tricks on content writing, then be sure to subscribe to Deep’s Newsletter.
